MUmail to MU LiveMail Conversion Posted 4/13/2010 Congratulations, you now have access to a new Marshall University e-mail service called MU LiveMail! What is MU LiveMail? MULiveMail will replace the basic @marshall.edu e-mail service that Marshall University students, alumni, retirees and guests use with a full-featured webmail environment complete with 10GB of e-mail storage, calendar, contacts and task lists. Please visit the MU LiveMail Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) webpage for additional details about this new service. Access to your LiveMail account is easy thru a single-sign-on feature inside the myMU web portal. You will continue to logon to myMU as before. Once at your myMU home page, just click on the ‘MU LiveMail’ icon (blue @-symbol at the top of your page) to connect to your new MU LiveMail account. If you don’t use myMU, you can access your e-mail directly through the web address of http://Outlook.com or see the MU LiveMail FAQ section entitled ‘Can I use my own email client to retrieve my mail?’ What do I need to do to use this service? University Information Technology (IT) needs your assistance to complete a few of the steps involved in the conversion to the MU LiveMail service: Step 1 - Creation of your new mailbox. If you are receiving this e-mail, then you are already on your way because IT has already completed this step for you. You are ready for your first logon via your myMU Home Page. Step 2 – Initial logon to your mailbox. To verify your identity for your first visit to your MU LiveMail account, you will be asked to enter your Windows Live ID and your Password. Use your original MUNET password (included below) for this logon: Windows Live ID: username@live.marshall.edu Password: ABCDEF Please note that the username includes LIVE.marshall.edu and that the password is in all upper case and is all alphabetic. Step 3 - Selecting a NEW password for your mailbox. Next you will be asked to choose a NEW password for your LiveMail account. You will need to use this password in the future if you do not use the myMU webportal and prefer to logon directly to your LiveMail account from http://Outlook.com, another e-mail client or your mobile device (i.e. Windows or Mac Mail, Thunderbird, or an iPhone). You will also be asked to confirm your “Country/region” (most folks will select ‘United States’) and to enter your “Birth year” (i.e. 1999) and click the “I Accept” button to accept the MU LiveMail service agreement and privacy statement. Step 4 - Change your e-mail delivery location (optional). During the remainder of the spring 2010 semester, your e-mail delivery location will remain unchanged. You will be able to use both your current MUmail and your MU LiveMail accounts. However shortly after the semester ends, IT will automatically switch your delivery location to the LiveMail service if your delivery location is still set to 'The Marshall University MUmail System'. Once this switch occurs, all NEW mail will be delivered to your MU LiveMail account. Are you ready to change your delivery location now? Then you can visit the Information Technology E-mail Delivery Location webpage to change your mail delivery location now. Select ‘A mailbox at live.marshall.edu’ as your new delivery location. Step 5 – Migrate old e-mail still stored on the MUmail servers (optional). The IT LiveMail project team has scheduled the current MUmail e-mail servers for retirement on June 30, 2010. IT staff are attempting to automate the migration of any e-mail messages which are still stored on the MUmail servers. Please look for an additional e-mail update on this subject on Friday, April 24, 2010. In the event that our automation efforts are not successful, then we will send you additional instructions at that time that will describe how you can move any messages you wish to keep over to your new LiveMail account.
