Besides bringing excitement to
most of Huntington, "We Are Marshall" is helping sales at
some businesses.
Not only are people buying shirts with the movie title on
it, but students, residents and visitors are buying all
kinds of Marshall gear to show their connection to the
university and now to the movie.
Drew Price, general manager at Stadium Bookstore, said the
movie has brought new faces into the store including one of
the producers of "We Are Marshall."
"It's been good for business," he said. "There are a lot of
people coming in asking for things specifically regarding
the movie."
Mike Campbell, manager at the University Bookstore located
in the Memorial Student Center, said the movie is also
having a positive affect on its business.
"I think the movie has had an effect on our business and I
think it will continue as the filming progresses," he said.
"Especially once the movie is released. I think it will
cause a lot of people to get interested in Marshall and its
story."
Campbell said he and his employees sold store merchandise at
the block party last weekend.
"We attended the block party as a vendor and what a
tremendous turnout that was," he said. "We had a successful
sales day that day as well."
Price said he is glad Warner Bros. is allowing Marshall to
be involved in this film project even though it does not
have to. He thinks it will help the accuracy of the movie.
"Warner Bros. has actually involved the university quite a
bit and because the plane crash is factual history, they
didn't have to consult Marshall at all to produce the film,"
Price said. "They've actually been in and talked to lots of
different people at Marshall and taken interviews and done a
lot of things to involve the people at the university to
make sure the film is being produced in an acceptable
fashion to them."
Price is sure the movie will be good by his standards and is
more than satisfied with how producers have gone about
things so far.
"I feel like they've done a
very respectable job of making sure they've got everything
right and not just producing it to be a good film," he said.
Price said, aside from having respect for all the people
helping with the movie, he has a great deal of respect for
the people the movie is about.
Having recently watched "Ashes to Glory," Price said the
story itself gives him goosebumps.
"The dedication that everybody had before the crash, the
dedication that everybody kept afterward and the dedication
that I still feel like there is, through the athletic
department and many others to keep this program alive is
just amazing," he said. "You have to have a lot of respect
for the people involved."
Campbell is excited about everything going on around campus
concerning the movie and knows the celebrities will draw
attention.
"It is extremely exciting to have celebrities on campus and
to think that in a few months we're going to see places that
we see everyday on the big screen," he said. "I know it's
going to turn out well and to have two major actors in it
that are well-known stars, I think it's going to get a lot
of publicity."
He has high hopes for the film and said he is looking
forward to the premiere at the Keith Albee Theatre.
"I just can't wait until the premiere downtown," he said.
"That's going to be another outstanding event. We go from
one exciting phase into another."
