 me make an apology to his buck,
but I politily informed the
colonel that if his servant
addressed any words to me
that I would take a chair
to him. (this occurred in the of-
fice) so this matter ended.
I however told the Colonel
if he insisted upon having the
government supply his ser-
vants with public horses to
ride. that they must ride them
in a proper manner or suf-
fer the consequences as long as
I was responsible for all the horses,
Shortly, a few days afterwards
the Col. issued an order forbidding
me to use the horses for any pur-
pose without his permission, I obey-
ed the order until the Inspector
General Gen. Totten came around
making his regular inspection.
The Inspector General always
asks the Qr. Master about a
thousand questions. the an-
swers to which are taken down
