Tell Me a Tale
Throughout our FYS class, we have considered, discussed, and reflected on various aspects of critical thinking, including the beliefs of others as well as our own. For the final project in this class, students were assigned to interview a person who has made an impact on their lives. We used StoryCorps’ Question Generator as a starting point for developing interview questions, and then students had the freedom and responsibility to develop questions tailored to their interview subjects. StoryCorps, This I Believe and This American Life all influenced our approach to conducting interviews and storytelling.
We invite you to use the drop-down menus to view students’ pages where you will find a. a photo of the student’s interviewee, b. a quotation that reflects one of the student’s core beliefs and fits the interview subject and c. a link to the interview either in audio (via SoundCloud) or video (via YouTube) form. In a sense, you might think of these interviews as informal oral histories. Prepare yourself for some moving, meaningful reflections and stories! ~Jennifer Sias, FYS Instructor
