Dr. Wolfgang Grill, Professor of Physics at the Institute of Experimental Physics II, University of Leipzig, Germany, will present a public lecture this Thursday evening from 7-8 pm in Room 102 of the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center. The talk is entitled: "Ultrasonic Microscopy, Tomography, and Holography - Acoustic Images from the Nano- to the Macro- Scales". As an example, an acoustic image, taken at several gigahertz, is shown below of a thin vibrating plate of lithium niobate excited by a piezoelectric point source - a so-called 'Lamb Rose'. Refreshments will be provided.
