The Marshall University Social Work Department offers a BSW degree, the entry level into the profession. Social Work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help people and to make a difference. Social workers help to solve individual, family, and community problems and enhance the social environment. They are employed in a variety of fields and settings such as child welfare, juvenile and criminal justice, health care, mental health, substance abuse treatment, housing programs, gerontology, and more. Social workers engage in counseling, crisis intervention, case management, community action, policy development, and other services.
