Courses

Students enrolled in the DPD will complete a variety of courses to enhance their knowledge and skills related to food and nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, management, and education/counseling. Required courses include food & nutrition courses such as lifespan nutrition, community nutrition & chemistry of foods; science courses such as chemistry, physiology, anatomy & microbiology; medical nutrition therapy courses; and management courses.

Suggested Course Sequences

Several DPD and non-dietetic required courses are offered every-other-year; therefore a suggested course sequence is provided for students entering the program in either even or odd years. Students may view the suggested course sequences and a list of all required courses by clicking on the link above. Students are encouraged to meet with their undergraduate advisor each semester for course and career advice.

The itemized list below is estimate of potential expenses. Please realize that this amount may vary. Additional information about tuition and fees may be found in the Marshall University Undergraduate Catalog or from the Office of the Bursar.

Some hospitals/physician offices may require a current tuberculosis test be on file for students participating in activities in those facilities. The cost of a TB test varies and is the student’s responsibility. TB tests are given at the Cabell Huntington Health Department free of charge (703 7th Avenue) for Cabell County resident and at a minimal charge for non-residents.

Organizations

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics

Dietetics students are encouraged to participate in the Marshall University Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics which is open to all students, faculty and staff at Marshall University. This group aims to promote health and wellness to the community.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Student Member

Dietetics students are eligible to become student members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Benefits of membership include eligibility for Academy scholarships, opportunities to network with other dietetics students and food and nutrition practitioners, a subscription to the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and access to the Academy Career Link. The West Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Students who join the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics are automatically included in their chosen states’ organization. Students are encouraged to attend The West Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Annual meeting to network with other dietetics students and food and nutrition practitioners in the region.
