Graduate
Admissions Process
Minimum requirements to be considered for admission to the M.S. program for speech-language pathology:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
-
An undergraduate major or the equivalent in Communication Disorders. Students with deficits in undergraduate coursework or those wishing public school certification may need to complete additional requirements.
- Request your official transcript at a time to ensure that it includes your most recent academic information (for example, the fall semester before you apply if you are currently enrolled).
- If you will be taking additional CD coursework that will not be reflected on the transcript, include that information within your application for full consideration of your background.
- For applicants with degrees in another major, completion of preparatory work will be required prior to admission. Please contact the department for information.
- An overall and communication disorders grade point average of at least 3.0.
- An official copy of GRE scores (within the last 5 years)
- A personal statement addressing applicant’s goals for graduate study in communication sciences and disorders
-
Three (3) letters of recommendation, written on appropriate letterhead, from individuals who can comment on the applicant’s academic and clinical performance and potential. All letters must be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office, in sealed envelopes that have the recommender’s signature across the flap (or must come directly from your University career services center).
- At least one letter must be from one of the applicant’s classroom instructors in communication disorders.
- Students currently enrolled in the undergraduate CD program at Marshall University may submit names of CD faculty who will serve as references, in lieu of letters. If you elect to have non-CD faculty provide a reference, you should submit the letter according to the above directions
- A departmental application, available here.
- A university application. http://www.marshall.edu/admissions/
All application materials should be sent directly to the Marshall University Graduate Admissions Office and must be received by February 1. Please refer to the following website for directions: http://www.marshall.edu/admissions/
The graduate program in Communication Disorders requires 6 semesters of consecutive, full time study (including summers), beginning in the Fall semester after admission. Generally, more students apply than can be accepted; therefore, the selection process is competitive. Students admitted to the program who fail to enroll in the following Fall semester, as well as students already in the program who fail to enroll for a semester without prior permission from their academic advisor, are considered withdrawn from the program and are not eligible for future enrollment.
NOTE: Applicants who are accepted for the graduate program will be simultaneously admitted as students in the Graduate College.
