Facilities of the Chemistry Department
Chemical instrumentation has become an essential
component of both teaching and research in modern chemistry. Few
medium-sized universities nationwide can match the extensive collection of
state-of-the-art chemical instrumentation currently in use in the Chemistry
Department at Marshall. The acquisition of the instruments listed below has
allowed the university to provide a technologically capable environment for
teaching chemistry and for carrying out research in the chemical sciences.

Computational Facilities
- PQS Quantum Cube QS16-200C-064 16 processor computational cluster (2005)
- Software includes Molpro 2006, Gaussian 98, PQS 3.3, Psi 3.2, Aces 2 (Mainz-Austin-Budapest version), NWChem 5.0, Q-Chem,
MSI Discover and Insight, GAMESS, HyperChem, Chem 3D Pro, MathCad,

Imaging Instrumentation
A wide variety of imaging instrumentation is available through the interdepartmental Molecular and Biological Imaging Center (MBIC) core user facility located on the first floor of the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center. The instruments cover the areas of optical, electron, and scanning probe microscopies, with a variety of accessories.
